A pleasant good morning to all of our Assembly delegates. I am elated by your presence and support that you’ve extended to the CEAP Retirement Program.

Last year in Davao, we celebrated our Plan’s Ruby anniversary with a bit of nostalgia as we traveled down memory lane and relived how the Plan came about and what it is today. This morning’s Assembly will be a continuation of where we left off, only this time as we celebrate the Plan’s 41st year, our focus will be on how to make the Plan even more responsive and service-oriented to you, our stakeholders.

This year’s theme is “Challenges and Opportunities Amid A Global Financial Slowdown”. Forty.  As we may have often heard it said, life begins at this age. Why that may be is not really explained.  But if it is so, what were the years before, one wonders.  Pre-life, perhaps?  Or maybe, though there may have been life, the one that starts at 40 is meant to be different.  At this point, it is probably assumed that one has matured, having gone through the toddler years, the teen-age span, the young adult stage from the 20s through the 30s, and now – Ruby.

The Ilagan Diocesan Schools System held its Educators’ Congress last June 9, 2010 at the School of Our Lady of Atocha, Alicia, Ilagan, Isabela with the theme: “IDSS Educators: Meeting the Challenges of a Vision-led and Relevant Catholic Education. The IDSS is composed of 7 schools, namely: St. John Berchmans High School, Cordon; La Salette Elementary School, Santiago City; School of Saint Monica – Isabela, Inc., San Agustin; School of St. Joseph the Worker, Echague; School of Our Lady of Atocha, Alicia; School of Saint Joseph, Naguilian; and School of Saint Matthias, Tumauini.

The morning session primarily focused on the Congress’ theme with notable speakers from government and the academe. Dr. Corazon T. Barrientos, Ed.D, CESO V, Superintendent, Division of Isabela, Department of Education had a representative deliver her talk on "Revised Secondary Education Curriculum, its challenges and concerns for implementation"; Rev. Fr. Ferdinand T. Maguigad, President of Association of Private Schools Administrators of Cagayan shared his experience on the topic "Response to the Challenges to Catholic Schools for survival and quality education"; while the Most Rev. Joseph A. Nacua, OFMCap., DD, Bishop of Ilagan expressed his views on the topic "A revisit to the role of Catholic Schools in the mission of evangelization".

The afternoon session was exclusively for the CEAP Retirement Plan. With close to 250 delegates in attendance, Mr. Renato Maria L. Aseneta, Director of CEAP Retirement Plan Office, discussed with them the Plan’s salient provisions, with emphasis on its core strengths, namely: stability, advocacy, assembly, service, mobility, interactivity and capacity. During the open forum, most of the questions raised focused on membership, contributions , benefits and legal matters.
